MDS and SCRAM Develop ‘Embedded Projector Engine' for Mobile Devices

January 6, 2009

Source: Korean Electronics News - MDS Technology (http://www.mdstec.com), a leading company in embedded solutions, and SCRAM Technologies (www.scramtech.com), a U.S. optics and projection technology company, have announced the development of an ‘Embedded Projector’’; a new multimedia solution that will be showcased at CES 2009 (Consumer Electrictronics Show) from 8th of Jan to 11th of Jan 2009 in Las Vegas.

SCRAM Technologies, an independent design house specializing in the advanced projection display market, and MDS Technology have been engineering an ‘Embedded Projector’ together through a strategic alliance, by developing embedded software, hardware and other pertinent systems.

Together, MDS and SCRAM demonstrated a 60cc high-resolution portable projector last year and will showcase a “10cc Embedded projector” this week at CES09 that can be plugged into current mobile phones and project an image up to 60 inches in diagonal.

In addition, a complete multimedia development kit, named ‘Sapphire’, will be introduced and made available to companies. The Sapphire engineering development kit can be easily connected to the embedded projector to test with mobile phone, digital camera, camcorder, notebook, MID (Mobile Internet device), and PMPs (Portable Multimedia Player) to assess applications for commercial use. Thus, companies that want to differentiate their products by embedding a projector into mobile phones, for example, can shorten the time-to-market and get higher productivity by using this testing platform.

Mr. Sang Heon Lee, CEO of MDS Technology, stated, “A supply agreement has already been made with a major OEM, and other additional design and supply agreements are in progress.” He further emphasized that, “Embedded projector technology is recognized as one of the next generation technologies will bring a new paradigm shift into the mobile phone industry.”
