CONGRESS APPROPRIATES FUNDS FOR ADVANCED DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY
Project to advance development of improved, large-scale display systems for harsh ground, sea and airborne environments

GREENWOOD, South Carolina, January 28, 2008 – FUJIFILM Manufacturing U.S.A., Inc. announced today that the 2008 Defense Appropriations Bill includes $1.6 million dollars to accelerate a project to develop and deliver advanced, cost-effective and energy-efficient display technology for the U.S. military. The funding has been allocated to a Navy defense project that will aid in the development of an advanced projection display system for U.S. Navy Tactical Operations Centers.

“We cannot thank Senator Lindsey Graham and Congressman Gresham Barrett enough,” said Nick Sekiguchi, president, FUJIFILM Manufacturing U.S.A., Inc. “Their untiring support and commitment to our facilities in South Carolina were instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.”

The project will employ advanced screen technology produced exclusively at the Fujifilm manufacturing complex in Greenwood, South Carolina and precision rear-projection technology from Combat Displays Inc. “Fujifilm scientists and engineers at the Greenwood Research Laboratories will work closely with our partners to create a superior technology solution to meet the rigorous performance standards required by the Defense Department,” continued Sekiguchi.

SCRAMscreen® technology is a patented screen design that absorbs surrounding light and allows the viewer to see a high-definition image in bright light conditions. FUJIFILM will use its manufacturing and technical expertise in the Greenwood facility to develop and produce the customized screens for this advanced display technology. This project is one of many that use the imaging, thin film coating and manufacturing expertise of Fujifilm to broaden the product and technology portfolio at the facility and to help build additional economic and business opportunities in Greenwood.

Combat Displays, Inc. is developing solid state display systems that do not require external air vents to remain cool, and are totally sealed from the environment. These systems will be scalable in size and performance and use common components to drive down the cost of design. Combat operations in Southwest Asia have highlighted the need for significantly improved display systems to operate in the world’s harshest environments; in the air, at sea, and on land. Such environments are characterized by extreme operating temperatures, blowing dust, and talcum powder-like sand, which wreak havoc on sensitive electronic systems and components.
